PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE PRIESTHOOD (2)
Recap: In the last episode we discussed the privileges of the Priesthood; Free access to the Throne,
Prayer with Faith and confidence, Chosen for good works.
In this episode, we consider the responsibilities of the priesthood.
Responsibilities
1. Must be HOLY UNTO THE LORD
Exo 28:2 – And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty. Ex
28v36“You shall also make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet:
HOLINESS TO THE LORD.-reminder
Exodus 40:12-15 (Ceremonial cleansing) Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the doorway of the tent of meeting and wash them with water. You shall put the holy garments on Aaron and anoint him and consecrate him that he may minister as a priest to me.
As the Old Testament priesthood was to be free of defilement, as symbolized by being ceremonially
clean, so we must run away from anything that defiles. He calls on us to live holy lives that we might also be a “holy priesthood” (1 Peter 2:5). Also read 2 Corinthians 7v2, 1Pe 2:9, 1Jn 3v7, Luke 1v73.
2. Agents of Reconciliation (Me-God) (Intercession) Priests Broker Salvation (Stand in the Gap).
Ex 32v32 Exo 32:32 – And now will You forgive their sin! And if not, I pray You, blot me out of Your book
which You have written. One of the functions of the priest is to intercede. Pray for others. Stand in the
gap.
We must mediate Christ’s love into a dark and troubled world. Just as priests are agents of reconciliation to God and others, so are we to be such mediators. (1 Timothy 2:2).
“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on
behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” Ezekiel 22v30
CONCLUSION
There is a Priest in every Family. Are you one? Would you rise and stand in the Gap.
Are you a Holy Priest or your garment is soiled? What defilement do you needs to get rid of?
Do you Pray/Intercede for others? Who do you need to pray for? Make a list.
