Introduction
What then is Faith? Heb. 11:1
Faith is believing that God is trustworthy to do what he says he will do
What faith is NOT
- Faith is not positive thinking.
It is not feel-good psychology, it’s not mind-over-matter.
Bible faith Is related to God & his word (Integrity).
- Faith is not Sight.
Sight and faith are “mutually exclusive”:
‘Seeing is believing’èWorld
‘believing is seeing’èWord (John 11:39)
- Faith sees the invisible (2 Cor. 4:18).
- Faith is not Hope (I Cor. 13:13),
Faith is in the heart; Hope is in the mind (Rom. 10:10)
-Faith Is in the Present, Hope is future. All that hope is future tense.
-Faith is a substance; hope is an expectation
Hope looks to the future. It is always future tense. Faith is now. Faith says, “I’ll receive the answer right now. I have it now.” It is not hoping that gets the job done, it is believing.
In Mark 11:24, Jesus told us, “Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they shall be granted you.”
.
Summary
Faith and hope are closely related, yet there are two important differences between them. First, faith springs from the heart, but hope is entertained in the mind. Second, faith is in the present; it is a substance—something we already have.
Faith lifts us above the realm of our own abilities. Hope is good but its faith that gets the job done.
